Weekday Meeting

September 20th will be our Weekday Meeting.  We will be having an auction activity.  No real money will be used.  We will tally your score and give you play money to use in the auction.  Everyone will need to bring an item or items or a service to be auctioned off.  This is a real fun way to give service and receive service.  We hope everyone will plan on attending.  We need you to turn in your points page by September 16th so we can tally your score and get your "money" ready.  Turn your page into Brandi Timm.

Some ideas for service are:

free babysitting
free haircut
free lessons in knitting or crochet
bring loaves of homemade bread
fresh jam
flower arrangement
crafts
free dinner to family

President's Message

Who Are you? It is often said that if we knew who were were we wouldn't do some of the things we do. The young women recently participated in a "Daughters of God" experience. The goal was for each young woman to realize her worth to her Heavenly Father, and in understanding that worth, would make choices that directed her towards not away from, Him.
In D&C 25, The Lord tells Emma that she is an Elect lady. In verse 16 it says, "And verity, verily, I say unto you, that this is my voice unto all." President Hinckley said that this revelation was rich in counsel, in praise, in instruction, and in promise to Emma Smith, and to every other woman who heeds the word of the Lord… I challenge you to study this section of the Doctrine and Covenants and put your name where Emma's is, and realize your divine worth as a woman.
We are told in this section to walk in paths of virtue. Virtue is a pattern of thought and behavior based on high moral standards. Each day working to keep our minds clean, speaking kindly and acting holy. Virtue is power. The Lord goes on to say, not to murmur. Complaining is a habit that we can break. There are so many blessing we have that if we look and speak of them more than complain, we receive light into our bodies, and we are lifted and filled with power.
An elect lady comforts her husband (if she has one) and acts in the spirit of meekness. I have often heard President Hinckley says, "there is so much of argument in the homes of the people. It is so destructive. It is so corrosive. It leads only to bitterness, heartbreak, and tears. How well advised we would be, each of us, when there is tension, when there is friction, when there is affliction, to speak with consoling words in the spirit of meekness".
In verse 10 we are counseled to lay aside the things of this world, and seek for the things of a better. President Hinckley goes on to say concerning this verse, "I feel he was not telling Emma that she should not feel concerned about a place to live, food on her table, and clothing.  He was saying to her that she should not be obsessed with these things, as so many of us are wont to be. He was telling her to get her thoughts on the higher things of righteousness and goodness, matters of charity and love for others, the things of eternity".
Verse 13, tells us to rejoice. Joy is knowing that through the atoning sacrifice of Christ we can receive a remission of our sins. The gospel is a thing of joy. It provides us with a reason for gladness.  President Hinckley says, "Of course there are times of sorrow. Of course there are hours of concern and anxiety. We all worry. But the Lord has told us to lift our hearts and rejoice. I see so many people, including many women, who seem never to see the sunshine, but who constantly walk with storms under cloudy skies. Cultivate an attitude of happiness. Cultivate a spirit of optimism. Walk with faith, rejoicing in the beauties of nature, in the goodness of those you love, in the testimony which you carry in your heart concerning things divine".
I testify that each of you sisters are elect ladies. Part of our trouble really believing that we are an elect lady is that you don't believe the truth that each of you were elect before you came here and that these admonitions, and promises are for each of us as they were for Emma. Please read and study this section with prayer and meditation and you will come to realize and feel your divine worth, and know that your elect.
I love each of you sisters, we love you as a presidency. You each have such wonderful divine beauty and It is a joy and a blessing to serve you at this time, and be your friends for all eternity.
