Entertainment will be provided and the youth will serve the dinner.  Come enjoy an evening with the youth and our great ward!

Lesson Recap

Sister Irene Campbell gave a wonderful lesson #16 "That We May Become One"

The voice of the Almighty called us out from the midst of confusion, to form a union and a lovely Brotherhood, in which we should love one another.

President Brigham Young established a Perpetual Emigrating Fund to help The Saints who were obliged to leave Nauvoo. The Church loaned money to the emigrating Saints with the understanding they would repay the loans back after their arrival in Utah and found employment.

It was difficult to ask the Saints for donations as they were poor, being driven from their homes. One brother offered his only cow. It was all he had to give but was grateful for the help he was given from the Fund, to go to Utah.

When we are united in the Gospel the Lord shows the world His Character through us. If we have division in our midst; we can never be the people God designed us to be. Unity is essential in the Church and most importantly in our families.

We become united as we help each other secure peace and happiness in the Gospel.  As we increase in being united we will be prepared to dwell in Gods presence.

Happy Birthday!

Sister Coleen Windward has strawberry plants that she would like to give to anyone who wants them.  Call her at 357-3362.

Sister Update

Sister Gloria Russell recently had surgery.  Please remember her in your prayers.

Stake Conference

Stake Conference was wonderful and we wanted to remind all of President Searle's challenge to all of us.  He wanted each of us to pray about someone we might know and to invite that person or persons to take the missionary discussions.  He has given us 60 days to do this.  He would like to then hear about our experiences.  He expressed his love for all of us and how our influence can be spread to those around us.

Also, many have expressed interest in the list of questions President Nelson mentioned.  They are as follows:

Am I presently holding a grudge against another?
Am I completely faithful to my spouse in every way?
Am I withholding forgiveness from someone who I feel has wronged me?
Have I verbally confessed all my sins to God and asked for His forgiveness?
Do I understand the sacrament and hunger weekly for its cleansing power?
Do I cheerfully sustain and support my church leaders in word and deed?
Do I find joy in daily gospel study and scripture reading?
Do I truly magnify my calling and find joy in serving the Lord?
Do I strive to share the gospel with my nonmember friends, neighbors and family?
Do I show proper respect for sacred things in my dress, speech, and actions?
Am I kind to all, especially my spouse and children?
Am I spending adequate time in temple worship?

Thank You

Dear 1st Ward Relief Society,

Sorry to be so slow expressing gratitude to you.  My heart is full of love and appreciation to you all for the many generous and loving acts of kindness you have shown to my parents, Lynn and Vera Barker, during their aging years.  Countless cards, visits, phone calls, gifts of food and other things to cheer them have been shared by many of you.  They have all been appreciated and treasured by me and my sisters and brother as you have ministered to our parents.  Thanks you, thank you, thank you.  You are angels.  We appreciate all the effort and help with the luncheon at the time of Vera's funeral.  It was most pleasant and comforting to have such a lovely meal and time to visit as a family.

May you all be blessed as you continue to watch out for and love each other and may you feel our love and gratitude coming your way.

Also, thanks for watching over and helping and loving Dorothy the past few years.  She is settled in a lovely place and is doing quite well.

Love, Annette Barker Olsen and Family

Happy Birthday!

Presidency Message

I was reading the Ensign this month and read, "The Lord expects each of us to have a calling in His Church so that others may be blessed by our talents and influence," said Pres. Ezra Taft Benson.  Elder Henry B. Eyring said, "The Lord knows you.  He knows whom He would have serve in every position in His Church.  He chose you."  These two statements really struck me.  At ward conference, Pres. Searle talked about three exceptions used in the church that will drag us down.  First missionary work.  I believe the greatest missionary work that we can do is with those we have been called to administer to right here.  Second, home/visiting teaching.  This is a calling you have been given and accepted.  I hope you know that I have prayed about who you teach, and who teaches you.  I believe this is who the Lord knows you can bless.  Don't use excuses or feel that you're the exception to getting your visiting teaching done.  Please make contact with your sisters.  There are sisters in this ward who need you to be their friend.  Ones who are lonely and sad but have on the happy church face.  If you are not visiting them and seeing their heart, you are missing something very important.  Third, forgiveness.  Don't think that your situation is the exception to the forgiveness that you could offer someone.  I thought Pres. Searle's talk was perfect for me to make some changes in how I look at missionary work, forgiveness, and especially visiting teaching.       Sister Strupp

August Preparedness Message

We have all heard the Fable "The ant and the grasshopper", I thought we would revisit it

In a filed one summer's day a Grasshopper was hopping about, chirping and singing to its hearts content.
An Ant passed by, bearing along with great toil and ear of corn he was taking to the nest. "Why not come
and chat with me," said the Grasshopper, "instead of toiling and moiling in that was?"  "I am helping to lay
food up for the winter," said the Ant. "and recommend you to do the same."  "Why bother about winter?" said
the Grasshopper; we have got plenty of food at present."  But Ant went on its way and continued its toil.
When the winter came the Grasshopper had no food and found itself dying of hunger, while it saw the ants
distributing everyday corn and grain from the stores they had collected in the summer. Then the Grasshopper knew:

Moral of Aesop's Fable: It is best to prepare for the days of necessity

Its the beginning of harvest time. I hope everyone has a plentiful harvest. This months challenge is to preserve
and store up some of our harvest for a later time when the need might arise.
