Area Broadcast Sunday

Lesson Recap

#4- Living Joyfully in Troubled Times
We will have disappointments, discouragements and trials in our life but if we have faith we can "have hope for the future, optimism in our present tasks, and inner peace." There are times when it seems we can't go on, we can't be happy. At these times we "simply have to righteously hang on and outlast the devil until his depressive spirit leaves you." Sometimes this might just include putting on a happy face when we don't feel like it and continuing on. As hard as it is, we must learn to, "Be cheerful in all that you do. Live joyfully. Live Happily. Live enthusiastically, knowing that God does not dwell in gloom and melancholy bit in light and love." As we do our part, whatever that may be, our Father in Heaven will bless us so that we can be happy no matter the circumstances in out lives.

Employment Help

Tyler Olsen our Ward Employment Specialist is wanting to put together a group of people looking for jobs or job upgrades. They will be part of a special class/program and at the end will have a certificate of completion from the LDS Business College. This is a great opportunity for anyone to help us all become more self reliant.
Another good resource for those looking for a job is to go to www.ldsjobs.org and sign in and create a profile. Employers are then able to look at the profiles and contact those who would fit their needs. If you are interested in the class or want some help registering at ldsjob.org contact Tyler Olsen and he will be able to answer questions and assist you.

Lesson Recap - #3 Freedom of Choice, an Eternal Principle

We were part of a council in heaven. "The central issue in that premortal council was: Shall the children of God have untrammeled [not restricted or hindered] agency to choose the course they should follow, whether good or evil, or shall they be coerced and force to be obedient.? Christ and all who followed Him stood for the former position - freedom of choice. Satan stood for the latter- coercion and force." There was a war in heaven fought over agency and it still continues today on the earth. God will never force us to do anything for that is contrary to His plan. "He will use persuasion through His servants. He will call us and He will direct us and He will persuade us and encourage us and He will bless us when we respond, but He will never force the human mind. We need to use the agency He has blessed us with wisely.  As we make decisions we must do our part and then Heavenly Father can direct us through the Holy Ghost. We need to have faith, pray, if needed fast, and then listen to the Holy Ghost. "Our decisions have made us what we are. Our eternal destiny will be determined by the decisions we yet will make."

Lesson Recap- Presidency Message

Sister Cook gave the lesson on Service.

Service is one of the best ways to develop charity and do as our Father in Heaven has asked, to love out neighbors as ourselves. As we serve others there is a change that takes place in each of us. Serving helps us move one step closer to developing charity, that pure, unselfish love that our Savior has for us. President Spencer W. Kimball said, "God does watch over us and does notice us, but it is usually though someone else that he meets our needs." Pray to know who to serve, listen for the promptings, and then go and do.
The youth theme for this year comes from D&C 4:2, Embark in the Service of God. This isn't just about missionary work. Think outside the box a bit there is so much we can do to serve those around us whether they are in our families or outside our homes, even our ancestors and we do family history and temple work. Think about how you want to "Embark in the Service of God" this year.
Sister Cook issued a challenge that we serve someone that we normally wouldn't serve each day. Help others along the way and get the added bonus of helping yourself become closer to the Savior and developing charity as well.

*She used two videos from lds.org that you can view. The first one was the youth theme video found on youth.lds.org
the next one is titled "You Never Know". It is easiest to find if you type the title into the search box.

February Valentines Dinner

Our weekday meeting this month is a Valentines dinner on Feb 13th at 6:30. Bring your spouse, or a friend, or just come and enjoy a fun evening. Come have dinner, challenge your brain with some guessing games, and enjoy just visiting with the other members of the ward. There will be a nursery provided.

Relief Society Presidency Message

Dear Sisters,

I have thought a lot about unity lately. As I have thought about this, I have come to realize that the best way to create unity in any group is to serve each other. President Monson said, “. . . you can never love the Lord until you serve Him by serving his people.” As members of the Church, we have been commanded to serve one another. We can serve others in our circle of family, friends, and community. We can also serve others through our service in the Church. Steven E. Snow of the Seventy said, “This service is to be given unselfishly, with no thought of personal gain or reward. It is to be given as needed, not when convenient. Opportunities to serve may not always seem obvious, as it is human nature to worry about our own wants and needs. We must resist such tendencies and look for opportunities to serve.”

The young men and young women theme for the year is D&C 4:2, “Therefore, O ye that embark in the service of God, see that ye serve him with all your heart, might, mind and strength, that ye may stand blameless before God at the last day.” Not just missionaries and not just our youth need to embark in the service of God, we all do. I would like to issue a challenge to the Relief Society sisters in the ward. It is a challenge I issued to my own family. Let’s embark this year in greater service, each day go out of your way to serve at least one person that you normally wouldn’t serve. It could be something small like smiling at someone, or letting someone go in front of you in the checkout line at the store. Or maybe it is something bigger like watching a sister’s children so she can attend the temple, or helping someone with yard work. It may be serving our ancestors by indexing or taking their names to the temple. Whatever it is, big or small, I challenge you to make a goal to serve someone every day. For when we are in the service of our fellow beings, we are in the service of or God.

                              Love,

                                   Sister Cook

Update Information

Please make sure your information in the directory on lds.org is up to date. In the near future the blog will be shut down and we will be using the newsletter at lds.org to communicate the information. Email addresses will need to be entered in the directory so that when information is added and an email sent out you get notified. You can do this by signing in on lds.org. If you have any questions about how to do this this talk to Rayanne Cook or Shelby Ellis.
