Stake Fireside

Just a reminder: We are having a Stake R.S. Activity this next Saturday Feb. 20th, @ 6:30 P.M. It is at the Stake Center, In the chapel, so Sunday dress! Sister Chris Nelson (Mission President's Councilor's wife- who was at our last activity) has consented to come speak to us! The Laurel's are invited! We feel they would be uplifted and interested in the subject matter as much as the R.S. Sisters will be!

Her topic should be interesting to All Women- emotions, coping skills, for change, stress, depression, and helping those around us who are struggling with addictions, Habits, Hang-ups, or hurts, including ourselves!
Afterwards we will have a chocolate fountain with dipping goodies, fruit- and time to socialize!!! When do we get time to do that? I know it's a busy weekend....with lots of choices, But we Hope to see some of you there.

Elder Hanie said at the last conference "I testify that the Savior will never turn away from us when we humbly seek Him .... [He] will never say, "Oh no, not you again; ...He understands ... sorrow, shame, and frustration... [He] has the power to lift burdens and replace them with hope. It can lead to a mighty change of heart that results in our having "no more disposition to do evil, but to do good continually."' I hope this activity gives you insight, lifts your burdens, fills your soul, and does all that for you!

Relief Society Presidency Message

Brian came home from primary at the beginning of January and shook his head in wonder as he explained to me a problem he had in his new class. His problem; everyone wanted to give the prayers and were sad when they couldn’t. He had gone from teaching the 10 and 11 yr olds where they would reluctantly pray when he asked to having too many volunteers. This lead me to ask the question; “What changes in us that makes us not want to pray as we get older?” What do these sweet 6 and 7 year olds know that we have forgotten?

As I was pondering this I came across a scripture during my scripture study that I think hit the nail on the head. It is 2 Nephi 32: 8-9

“And now my beloved brethren, I perceive that ye ponder still in your hearts; and it grieveth me that I must speak concerning this thing. For if ye would hearken unto the Spirit which teacheth a man to pray ye would know that ye must pray; for the evil spirit teacheth not a man to pray, but teacheth him that he must not pray.

But behold I say unto you that ye must pray always, and not faint; that ye must not perform any thing unto the Lord save in the first place ye shall pray unto the Father in the name of Christ, that he will consecrate thy performance unto thee, that thy performance may be for the welfare of thy soul.”

Satan knows better than we do, that prayer is powerful and we need prayer to bring the Spirit, which will help us in whatever we are doing. I believe Satan has perfected a lie that we tend to listen to. He doesn’t want us to pray so he makes us feel embarrassed and convinces us that we can’t pray in a group setting because we can’t pray as well as so and so, or that we don’t like to speak in front of people so we will mess up. Sisters, prayers are not sermons and we shouldn’t worry what others think of our prayers. In fact, I’ll let you in on a secret, when you say a prayer no one is judging you or giving you a score on what you say or didn’t say.

Sisters when we are asked to pray in public whether it is at our Sunday meetings, or some other event, we should jump at the chance to say a simple heartfelt prayer. We will get blessings and it will help consecrate that prayer to the “welfare of our souls.” Let us remember that we are to become as a little child and that includes our prayers and our attitudes when we are asked to pray. Don’t believe Satan’s lies. Your Heavenly Father wants to hear from you.

Love, Sister Rayanne Cook
