Lesson Recap
Sunday's lesson was President Uchtdorf's message from the November 2011 Ensign titled "Forget Me Not". This is a wonderful message that is worth reading over and over again. He tells us five things that we need to not forget.
First, forget not to be patient with yourself. He tells us that we are too hard on ourselves and should celebrate the small successes in our homes.
Second, forget not the difference between a good sacrifice and a foolish sacrifice. We should choose wisely how to spend our time.
Third, forget not to be happy now. Sometimes we find ourselves thinking, "When this or that happens, then I will be happy". We need to find joy now. When life gives you a lemon, make lemonade.
Sister Lee gave the following quote, "Think how you would feel if you woke up tomorrow and you only had the things you thanked God for yesterday".
Fourth, forget not the "why" of the gospel. We all want to live with Heavenly Father again. Don't make the gospel a drudgery.
Fifth, forget not that the Lord loves you. He loves us no matter what.
The final quote of the lesson was, "Sisters, there is something inspiring and sublime about the little forget-me-not flower. I hope it will be a symbol of the little things that make your lives joyful and sweet. Please never forget that you must be patient and compassionate with yourselves, that some sacrifices are better than others, that you need not wait for a golden ticket to be happy. Please never forget that the "why" of the gospel of Jesus Christ will inspire and uplift you. And never forget that your Heavenly Father knows, loves, and cherishes you."

Great Quote
When we approach God, we will never get a recorded message like, "Please listen carefully to the following options before choosing: Press one for customer service, two for technical support, etc." We will never be told that He is on His lunch break, taking a holiday, or that this is His day off. Our Father is always there for us. He has put no restrictions on our access to Him. We can turn to Him at any time of the day or night. We can present Him any question, any problem, any petition. We can do this in any language, with no restrictions on the subject or the gravity of the problem. We do not need a visa or a passport to gain access to Him. "He that keepeth Israel shall neither slumber nor sleep." (Gerald N. Lund from his book Divine Signatures)
Lesson Recap
Love Thy Neighbor As Thyself
President George Albert Smith loved the people he knew and the people he didn't know. He didn't have any enemies.
Our Relief Society motto is "Charity Never Faileth". To have Charity, we must do three steps: Have a Desire, Pray, and Read our scriptures daily. We need to seek to have the gift of charity.
We must remember that everyone is a child of God and that people are watching us.
True happiness comes from loving and serving others.

President's Message
The Savior said, "If you have faith as a grain of a mustard seed, say to this mountain, remove, and it will remove...As a new year brings a new start, let us ponder what "mountain" in each of us needs to be removed. When a man works by faith, he works by mental exertion instead of physical force. It is by words, instead of exerting his physical powers, with which every being works when he works by faith. So, if by our words the mountains within us move, could we write a goal to have them moved from us this year? If we struggle with gossiping, thinking or saying bad of others, addictions of all kinds, hurts or feelings we need to let go of, or anything keeping us from becoming like Christ. Have the faith this year to accomplish it. Say out loud every morning--"I will not gossip, or I will not let an old feeling of hurt effect me having a great day!" Christ will help you, and with faith in Him you can do it! At the end of the day, reflect how you did and write it down and you will see your progress. As long as we progress, we are moving towards a life with our Heavenly Father, an eternal life.

Lesson Recap
Sister Olsen taught a great lesson titled "Living What We Believe" from our lesson manual, Teachings of George Albert Smith. We discussed what we need to do to live what we believe such as saying our prayers, reading our scriptures, being honest, dressing modestly, and doing service.
When President Smith was 34 years old, he made a list of resolutions that he called his "personal creed"--11 ideals that he committed to live by:
"I would be a friend to the friendless and find joy in ministering to the needs of the poor.
"I would visit the sick and afflicted and inspire in them a desire for faith to be healed.
"I would teach the truth to the understanding and blessing of all mankind.
"I would seek out the erring one and try to win him back to a righteous and a happy life.
"I would not seek to force people to live up to my ideals but rather love them into doing the thing that is right.
"I would live with the masses and help to solve their problems that their earth life may be happy.
"I would avoid the publicity of high positions and discourage the flattery of thoughtless friends.
"I would not knowingly wound the feelings of any, not even one who may have wronged me, but would seek to do him good and make him my friend.
"I would overcome the tendency to selfishness and jealousy and rejoice in the successes of all the children of my Heavenly Father.
"I would not be an enemy to any living soul.
President J. Reuben Clark Jr., summed up President Smith's personal integrity with these words: "He was one of those few people of whom you can say he lived as he taught."

Lesson Recap
It is a new year and this year well be studying the teachings of George Albert Smith in Relief Society. Sister Strupp gave a wonderful introduction to this great man that was full of humor and made you realize that Prophets are just people like us. Some of the highlights were:
David O. McKay said that President Smith lived as close as possible to being like Christ.
J. Rueban Clark said that President Smith's name should have been "Love".
He was a real stinker as a youngster and was the terror of the neighborhood and the ward. It was said that he was the worst boy the townsfolk knew.
He fell in love with his wife, Lucy, first at 10 years old when he dipped her braids in the inkwell and then later tied her to a tree with those same braids.
He was very musical and used to put on concerts in his backyard. People loved to come and see him perform.
When he passed away, his 7-year-old paper boy came to the house and said that he had lost his very best friend.
He lived to age 81 but had a lot of health problems along the way but was an inspiration to all who knew him.
It is going to be a really great year learning about George Albert Smith.
