Updates

Brother Kay Allred is not doing well after his surgery.  He is having trouble bouncing back like he did last time.

On a happy note, Beth Allred did get elected Queen of Lincoln Court.  It was a great party with a hairdresser, sash, and flowers along with a fancy dinner.  Congratulations Beth!

Lesson Recap

Sister Christa Ball gave a great lesson on how to "Stay on the Lord's Side of the Line".  She talked about how sometimes we seem to straddle that line instead of staying clearly on the Lord's side.

President George Albert Smith often repeated the counsel his grandfather used to give to his family:  "There is a line of demarcation well defined between the Lord's territory and the devil's territory.  If you will stay on the Lord's side of the line you will be under his influence and will have no desire to do wrong; but if you cross to the devil's side of that line one inch, you are in the tempter's power and if he is successful, you will not be able to think or even reason properly because you will have lost the Spirit of the Lord."

Don't forget!

Thursday, September 20th is our weekday meeting at 7:00 p.m. at the church.  It will be our "Service Auction".  Come and enjoy an evening with us!

Provident Living

Drains need to be cleaned regularly to keep them fresh and free running.  Here's a formula for a compound which will keep your drain clean without draining your pocketbook.

You will need baking soda, table salt, cream of tartar, and a container (all available at your supermarket).

Dry mix 1 cup baking soda, 1 cup of table salt, and 1/4 cup of cream of tartar in a bowl.  Store in container.

To use, put 1/4 cup in drain, add 1 cup water.  Note cleaning bubbling action.  When bubbling has stopped, run water through drain.  The cost is great compared to already prepared cleaners.

Lesson Recap

Sister Olsen gave a great lesson on Faith.  Here is a quote from the lesson:

"We know that faith is a gift of God; it is the fruitage of righteous living.  It does not come to us by our command, but is the result of doing the will of our Heavenly Father.  If we lack faith let us examine ourselves to see if we have been keeping His commandments, and repent without delay if we have not.  ...May the Lord increase our faith, and may we live to be worthy of it."
President George A. Smith

Lesson Recap

Sister Bolander gave an excellent lesson on Sunday titled "In the Meantime".  The lesson talked about patience.  Below are a few quotes from the lesson.

President Dieter F. Uchtdorf--"God wants to help us to eventually turn all of our weakensses into strengths, but He knows that his is a long term goal.  He wants us to become perfect, and if we stay on the path of discipleship, one day we will.  It's OK that you're not quite there yet..."

President Dieter F. Uchtdorf--"To me it appears that our splendid sisters sometimes undervalue their abilities--they focus on what is lacking or imperfect rather than what has been accomplished and who they really are.  The good news is that this also points to an admirable quality:  the innate desire to please the Lord to the best of your ability.  Unfortunately, it can also lead to frustration, exhaustion, and unhappiness."

Elder Orson F. Witney--"No pain we suffer, no trial that we experience is wasted.  It ministers to our education to the development of such qualities as patience, faith, fortitude and humility...through sorrow and suffering, toil and tribulation, that we gain the education that we come here to acquire."

Elder Jeffery R. Holland--"We speak about 'excellence' a great deal, but by definition, excellence does not come easily or quickly.  It is simply a truism that nothing very valuable can come without sacrifice and effort and patience...Many of the most hoped for rewards in life can seem an awfully long time coming."

Regarding Voting

This quote comes from the Church Policy Handbook.  "In accordance with the laws of their respective governments, members are encouraged to register to vote, to study issues and candidates carefully, and to vote for individuals whom they believe will act with integrity and sound judgment.  Latter-day Saints have a special obligation to seek out, vote for, and uphold leaders who are honest, good, and wise (see D&C 98:10).

Crib For Sale

There is a brand new, never used sleigh crib bed for sell.  It includes the mattress, pad, sheets and all excessories for $300.  If you are interested, call Brenda at 357-0869 or 390-2833.

Presidency Message

"God is eagerly waiting for the chance to answer your prayers and fulfill your dreams, just as he always has.  But he can't if you don't pray, and he can't if you don't dream.  In short, he can't if you don't believe."  Elder Jeffrey R. Holland

I think this is an excellent quote to remember every single day.  I believe that we, as women tend to get caught up in all the things we think we are supposed to be.  The perfect wife, mother, sister, or friend who makes it through this world without a bump or a bruise, and is the endless helping hand, but thinks little of herself.

So I think it is crucial that we keep it in our hearts, and in our minds, that it's perfectly okay to dream and reach for something a little better than we have at this moment.  Our Heavenly Father is patiently waiting to help us achieve every worthy dream and goal we could ever have.  So it is my prayer that we can always keep a dream in our hearts and try just a little harder today to become who we want to be tomorrow.

I truly love each of you sisters, and desperately wish I could express this in a way that would touch each of your hearts.
Sister Sunni Lee

BEING PREPARED

We need to be prepared for natural disasters or a family member losing a job.  Being prepared is not just our food supply.  It is also being prepared physically and spiritually.  Being prepared for anything in our lives.  Elder Stanley C. Ellis of the Seventy says, "When we are grounded in the gospel and when we are prepared, we can weather the storm."    Sister Irene Campbell

Weekday Meeting

This month our Relief Society Activity is on September 20th at 7:00 p.m. in the church gym.  We are having a Service Auction and REALLY hope you can all make it!  It will be so much fun and we have gotten a lot of feed back from sisters in other wards who have done them in the past and loved them.  In talking to a few of these sisters we have decided to change a few details from how we originally planned it.  If you have already picked up the papers to tally up points that we handed out in the past few weeks...you won't need those any more!  We are going to have everyone just come that night and start out with the same amount of "play money" and then we will have some bonus points available just for showing up!

If you are able to, please bring some type of a service to auction that night!  It can be anything from a loaf of bread, craft, or even offering your services for a meal or babysitting.  Anything simple is great!  We want to make this easy and fun for everyone attending, so there is not need to stress if you feel to busy or unable to offer a service at this time.  If this is the case, PLEASE come still because we will have refreshments and lots of visiting...and there will definitely be fun entertainment to watch!

"SOUP" ER SATURDAY!

This year our Super Saturday will be October 13th.  We have set out samples of the crafts in the kitchen.  Please stop by and sign up.  There will be lots of activities for everyone even if you aren't interested in the crafts.  So check out the display in the Kitchen and we will have more details to come!
