Prepardness Message

When Brian and I lived in 2nd Ward and only had the three boys, our ward challenged everyone to get their 72 hour kits together.  I admit, I felt very overwhelmed and thought there is no way I can do that or even afford it. Even though I felt we were facing an overwhelming project, Brian and I decided to do as much as we could. The ward had given us lists with ideas on them. One night, for Family Home Evening, we began. We used backpacks to hold the items and started going down the list and piling things on each person’s backpack. The boys thought it was great fun, almost like a scavenger hunt, as we would try to find the next item listed. It amazed me how many things we actually already had that were on the list and all we needed to do was gather the items up and put them in the backpacks. Yes, there were things that we didn’t have, but we made a list and over time bought the needed items. Every year, usually one of the kids, will say let’s go through our 72 hour kits for Family Home Evening.  If you don’t have 72 hour kits for your family try and put together at least something by gathering items from your house.  If you already have one, go through it. Food needs rotated as well as clothing sizes change.  Hopefully, we never need to use them but we will be so much better off if we have them when we need them. If you need an idea of what to put in your kits, Google “72 hour kit check list.” There is a wealth of information out there.

Visiting Teaching Message

"...visiting teaching is one of the most effective ways to bring about the Lord’s work of salvation, since it gives sisters an opportunity to personally nurture and strengthen each other as the Savior did. Because we follow the example and teachings of Jesus Christ we value this sacred assignment to love, know, serve, understand, teach, and minister in His behalf. … A sister in this Church has no other responsibility outside of her family that has the potential to do as much good as does visiting teaching. Revelation also plays a key role in visiting teaching as it leads and guides sisters to know how to minister to one another throughout the month. It is our blessing to pray for another sister and receive inspiration as to how the Lord would have us care for one of His daughters. ... In reality, visiting teaching is never finished. It is more a way of life than a task. Faithfully serving as a visiting teacher is evidence of our discipleship.”

The Stake is having a blood drive on Thursday, July 28th from 1 p.m. to 5:45 p.m. If you would like to donate blood call Sister Cook and she can put you on the list or else watch for the sign up sheets that will be passed around on Sunday. They also need volunteers to help unload, sit at sign in desk, work at the refreshment table and walk with donors after donation. The shifts are each an hour. If you would like to help with this also contact Sister Cook (357-3942) or watch for the sign up sheets on Sunday.
