If you remember the theme for this year which the Bishopric has set for the ward is "We Can Do Hard Things". They set us hikes for us to do, now they are asking us to do some family history. They would like each of us to collect information for ourselves, our parents, our grandparents and out great grandparents. We can do this together as families and as a ward family to strengthen our ties to each other and our ancestors.
Please see the picture below to see the kind of information we need to collect for each person.

Lesson Recap
The Parable of the Sower - by Dallin H. Oaks
The parable of the sower talks about the different soils on which some seeds fell. These soils represent the different ways which the teachings of the gospel are received and followed. What do we do with the Savior's teachings?
Do we let the teachings fall on Stony ground where it grows quickly but because the teachings don't have any real root they are scotched and wither away? We must beware for "if we are not rooted in the teachings of the gospel and regular in its practices, any one of us can develop a stony heart, which is stony ground for spiritual seeds."
Do we let the teachings of the gospel fall among thorns that choke it out? Do we hear the word but we let the cares and the riches of this world overpower the teachings and come first in our lives? We need "to really live what we claim to believe. That need to be a priority- not just in our personal and families lives but in our churches, our political choices, our business dealings, our treatment of the poor; in other words in everything we do."
We all struggle with the stones and the thorns but hopefully more often than not the seed/word is falling on good ground. That the teachings reach our hearts and help us change for the better as we internalize them. How can we achieve this; "by praying, by scripture reading, by serving, and by regularly partaking of the sacrament to always have His spirit to always be with us."

Women's Conference
I hope most of you got the chance to watch and listen to the General Women's Conference this past weekend. It was amazing. Sister Wixom reminded us that we are each a child of God and we have a divine nature within us. Sister Reeves reminded us that we need to beware of the tools Satan uses to destroy us.
Sister McConkie told us to continue to serve and so the Lord's work. We can do whatever the Lord asks us to do with his help. President Uchtforf told us a story of Great-Aunt Rose and how she was happy despite everything that hadn't gone the way she wanted.
If you missed it or want to view it again go to www.lds.org and click on the link there.

Lesson Recap
Lesson 18 - Beware of Pride
Most of us probably don't see ourselves as prideful but President Benson warned us that we need to be careful as pride can slip so easily into our daily lives. "The central feature of pride is enmity- enmity toward God and enmity toward our fellowmen. Enmity mean 'hatred toward, hostility to, or a state of opposition' . . . . .Pride is essentially competitive in nature. We pit our will against God's." In other wards we think what we want to do is better than what God wants us to do.
We must be careful that we do not elevate ourselves above others. If we do that we are being prideful. The world wants us to believe that we have to tear others down to raise ourselves up. However the opposite is true. If we will build others up we raise ourselves with them. We need to remember that we are all God's children doing the best we can in the circumstances we have been given.
"The antidote for pride is humility -meekness, submissiveness. It is the broken heart and contrite spirit. . . . God will have a humble people. Either we can choose to be humble or we can be compelled to be humble. Alma said, 'blessed are they who humble themselves without being compelled to be humble.' Let us choose to be humble."

Lesson Recap
Lesson # 17 - Keeping the Law of Chastity
President Benson said, "the plaguing sin of this generation is sexual immorality. This, the Prophet Joseph said, would be the source of more temptations, more buffetings, and more difficulties for the elders of Israel than any other."
Problems that relate to law of chastity are rampant today. We all know someone who is fighting sins that deal with this law or suffering the effects of others choices. Satan is attaching the family and this things to do with the law of chastity are what he is using to destroy our families.
What can we do to help ourselves and our family members combat Satan's tactics? Of course there are the Sunday school answers; prayer, scripture reading, service, and church attendance. President Benson also gives us a lists 5 main things we can do.
1. Control your thoughts. "No one steps into immorality in an instant. The first seeds of immorality are always sown in the mind."
2.Pray for the power to resist temptation. "Temptation will come to all of us. It will take many forms and appear in many disguises, but the Lord has given us the key for resisting it. . . Pray always that you may conquer Satan, and that you may escape the hands of the servants of Satan that do uphold his work."
3.Avoid improper situations. Be careful of so called harmless meetings and be careful of the time spent and words said to a member of the opposite sex who is not your spouse. "A good question to ask ourselves is this: Would my spouse be pleased is he or she knew I was doing this?"
4. Be modest. "Modesty in dress and language and deportment is a true mark of refinement. . . . Shun the low and the vulgar and the suggestive.
5. Have healthful and positive activities. Overcome good with evil. You can overcome may evil inclinations though good physical exertion and healthful activities.
If we have sinned isn't it wonderful and glorious that through the atonement we can repent and become clean again. Easy, oh no not even close to easy, but in the end it is worth it. For those of us who know others that have sinned or have been affected please remember to not judge others. It is not our place to do so. We need to love and encourage those trying to repent not judge and tear them down.

Presidency Message
I enter this position with many mixed
emotions. Of course there are feelings of nervousness, being under-qualified
and over whelmed. There is also some excitement at having new experiences and
opportunities to learn. I am honored to be working alongside such great women
in the presidency. I am also thrilled to have the opportunity to get to know
each sister in our ward better.
Most of all I am humbled to know that our Heavenly Father considers me
worthy to serve in Relief Society and serve you wonderful sisters in our ward.
For this reason, last month’s visiting teaching message really hit home for me.
One Divine Attribute of Jesus Christ is being humble. It pointed out that
"the Savior is our supreme example of the power of humility and
submissiveness." He humbly aligned his wants and desires with His Fathers
commandments by profoundly saying "Not my will, but thine, be done."
(Luke 22: 42). I pray that I will be able to follow His council in filling my
role as second counselor and put the wants and needs of the sisters above my
own.
Another great example of the Saviors humility was his great service to
all he ministered to. Again the visiting teaching message points out one of the
Savior’s many examples of humble service with the story of when he washed the
disciples feet. I know that as I learn my role and work alongside our fabulous
presidency I will have plenty of opportunities to serve our sisters and
"wash your feet" so to say. I pray that I am humble enough to take
those opportunities. The Lord expected all of us to follow His example,
"If I then, your lord and master, have washed your feet, ye also ought to
wash one another’s feet. For I have given you an example, that ye should do as
I have done to you." (John 13:14-15). May we all follow this great example
and learn to love serving one another.
Sister Heather Olsen

Congratulations to Josh and Maryann Gundersen and Corry and Kimi Romrell on the birth of their daughters this past month.

Lesson Recap
Sister Heather Olsen gave the presidency lesson this week on the importance and purpose of Relief Society. Relief Society prepares women for the blessings of eternal life by helping them increase faith and personal righteousness, strengthen families and homes, and help those in need. Relief Society accomplishes these purposes through Sunday gospel instruction, other Relief Society meeting such as thebmonthly weekday meetings, visiting teaching, and welfare and compassionate service.
Through Relief Society, we can gain friendships, learn new skills, create a support for the sisters of our ward and help each other grow closer to Christ. We can become more unified as we attend our meetings and extra weekday activities.
