Lesson Recap

"The law of tithing is one of the most important ever revealed to man...Through obeying this law to the blessings of prosperity and success will be given to the Saints."  Lorenzo Snow

When we pay tithing, we contribute to the work of the Church.

The Lord will bless us temporally and spiritually as we obey the law of tithing.

Parents have a responsibility to teach our children by example to pay tithing.

Quote - M. Russell Ballard

"When are hearts are no longer set upon the things of this world, we will no longer aspire to the honors of men or seek only to gratify our pride.  Rather, we take on the Christlike qualities that Jesus taught:
We are gentle and meek and long-suffering.
We are kind, without hypocrisy of guile.
We feel charity toward all men.
Our thoughts are always virtuous.
We no longer desire to do evil.
The Holy Ghost is our constant companion.

How do we make this change?  How do we ingrain this love of Christ into our hearts?  There is one simple daily practice that can make a difference for every member of the church.

In your morning prayer each new day, ask Heavenly Father to guide you to recognize an opportunity to serve one of His precious children.  Then go throughout the day with your heart full of faith and love, looking for someone to help.  Stay focused, just like the honeybees focus on the flowers from which to gather nectar and pollen.  If you do this, your spiritual sensitivities will be enlarged and you will discover opportunities to serve that you never before realized were possible."  M. Russell Ballard

Lesson Recap

President Snow said: "We should bring our wills into subjection to the will of the Father; and feel to say, what is the will of our Father; whom we are here in the world to serve?  Then every act that we perform will be a success."

We came into the world for a great purpose, the same as Jesus, our elder brother, to do the will and works of our Father; in this there is peace, joy and happiness, an increase of wisdom, knowledge and the power of God; outside of this are no promised blessings.  Thus let us devote ourselves to righteousness, help each and all to be better and happier; do good to all and evil to none; honor God and obey His Priesthood; cultivate and preserve an enlightened conscience and follow the Holy Spirit; faint not, hold fast to what is good, endure to the end, and your cup of joy shall be full even to overflowing, for great shall be your reward for your trials and your sufferings under temptations, your fiery ordeals, your heart yearnings and tears; yea, our God will give you a crown of unfading glory.

Lesson Recap

Lesson Recap: Holiness
We must PRACTICE holiness continually. D&C 46:33

Holiness is the strength of the soul. It comes by faith and through obedience to God’s laws and ordinances. God then purifies the heart by faith, and the heart becomes purged from that which is profane and unworthy. When holiness is achieved by conforming to God’s will, one knows intuitively that which is wrong and that which is right before the Lord. “… We should go to the temple, among other reasons, to safeguard our personal holiness and that of our families. “In addition to temples, surely another holy place on earth ought to be our homes. …
In thinking about how to practice holiness,  I wonder if for 3 days you would be willing to just once each day pick one of your normal daily activities and TRY TO BE HOLY while doing it, or do it as a holy woman would do it. For example, you might choose welcoming your husband home from work, how would a holy woman do that? Or making dinner, or reading to a child, or exercising. You might choose praying, doing laundry, or how would a holy woman handle a conflict?
What would she spend her time reading,? or saying? or watching
What would she do in really difficult situations. What if she were offended, falsely accused, how would a holy woman handle that. What would a holy woman do. Choose a different thing each day, or choose the same thing each day, it doesn't matter, you can't do it wrong.
Be careful of the topics you speak of with your friends, no gossiping. Trying to be holy invites the spirit into your conversations.

Here is the "Daughters in my Kingdom" reading chart that was passed out with the lesson. Feel free to print a copy if you didn't get one Sunday. As a presidency we would like to challenge all of you to participate... this isn't a race, but we know this book will help you learn more about how to become a Holy Woman as you read it. -If you don't have a copy of the book, let one of us know and we will get you one!
