APRIL PREPARDNESS THOUGHT

“ . . . . . MAN SHALL NOT LIVE BY  BREAD ALONE. . . . . . .”

Water storage is critical!!!!!

Fourteen gallons of water per person is the suggested amount to store for a 2 week emergency situation. This isn't a lot of water though. If you have room and means to do so, store more
here is a three tier method for storing water:
Tier 1: this is made of water bottles and other small portable water containers. ( this could include juice jugs, 2 liter pop bottles or your canning jars) To economize many people are tempted to use empty milk jugs, but don't plan to store water in these for more than 3-4 months. They are bio-degradable and will break down within 6 months.

You can store these containers where they are not exposed to direct sunlight; including closets, under beds, cabinets. These are for quick access and should be rotated regularly. You can also purchase boxes of prepackaged water pouches for easy water sources in 72 hour kits.
Teir 2: this is comprised of larger bottles of water or pallets of water. Large 5 gallon  water containers are a great idea for these. These should be rotated about every year.
Teir 3:  this is your large water storage, meant to store large amounts of water. 55 gallon storage units are excellent ideas, don't forget a siphon pump for these. These should also be rotated every few years, books say up to seven years but I rotate ours about every 2-3 years. Just to be safe.
When storing water in your larger containers it is necessary to purify water for long term storage. Here is one suggestion

Chlorine Bleach -- Household bleach  be used. This should contain a 5.25% solution of sodium hypochlorite without soap additives or phosphates. Use 1/8 teaspoon (about 5-8 drops) per gallon of water.
I also recommend boiling your drinking  water even if your use the purifying method for storing large amounts of water. “Just to be safe” is a great thought.

Here's your April challenge:  Rotate your water storage. Add to your storage if you have the space.  If you don't have water stored, find ways to store it. Use you r canning jars, this is a great way to have water since you already have to store your jars. Use juice bottles. If we all look I am sure we can find ways to be more prepared with our water supply.
Also in a emergency situation  don't forget you have water in your water heater, your toilet tank. Don't use water from your toilet  tank if it has colored disinfectants, ice in your freezer, water pipes.

Lesson Recap

President Eyring, P. 72 Where is the Pavilion?

The pavilion that seems to intercept divine aid does not cover God but occasionally covers us. God is never hidden, yet sometimes we are.

God is never hidden, yet sometimes we are, covered by a pavilion of motivations that draw us away from God and make Him seem distant and inaccessible. Our own desires, rather than a feeling of “Thy will be done,”2 create the feeling of a pavilion blocking God. God is not unable to see us or communicate with us, but we may be unwilling to listen or submit to His will and His time.

Lesson Recap

Becoming Perfect before the Lord:  "A Little Better Day by Day"

"Do not expect to become perfect at once.  If you do, you will be disappointed.  Be better today than you were yesterday, and be better tomorrow than you are today.  The temptations that perhaps partially overcome us today, let them not overcome us so far tomorrow.  Thus continue to be a little better day by day; and do not let your life wear away without accomplishing good to others as well as to ourselves."

Happy Birthday!

Motherhood Education for March!

Love Within the Family

We all remember the beautiful hymn - "Love at Home" - there is beauty all around; when there's love at home. There is joy in every sound, when there's love at home. Peace and plenty here abide, smiling sweet on every side. Time doth softly, sweetly glide, when there's love at home.

Most important thing we can do to nourish the Love in our families is to live the First great Commandment - "A new commandment I give unto you, That ye love one another; as I have loved you, that ye also love one another" (John 13:34

Love requires constant attention unless nourished by constant care, like a plant without water, it will shrivel up and die.

By loving Heavenly Father, we draw close to him, from Him we receive knowledge and power to love, to meet daily challenges in our homes. If we love God, he teaches us and gives us power to love as he loves.

Second Commandment - "Thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself" (Matt 22:39) Neighbors, family members, friends. Sometimes we treat strangers better than our own families.

The family has been under attach since Satan taunted Adam and Eve. We must guard against contention.

Parents should be partners to cherish and protect one another, knowing that the aim of adversary is to destroy the integrity of the family. Showing love for our own parents is also important to nourishing love in our families. How can we expect our children to love and respect us, if we do not show that we love and honor our own parents? We are showing love and honor to God when we show love and respect for our parents. We need to bear one another's burdens.

Do I really listen to each family member?
Do I spend time with each family member?
Do I help each family member feel needed?
Do I have pure love of Christ?

Remember, there is joy in every sound, when there's love at home.

I hope and pray that we will take the time as Mothers and Grandmothers to look for the needs of our "FAMILY," whoever that might be, help them out and share "Love Within" to make this world a better place. Love to each and every one of you.

-Sister Tincher

Lesson Recap

President Snow recalled an experience he had while listening to a friend explain a passage of scripture.  He says, "while attentively listening to his explanation, the spirit of the Lord rested mightily upon me--the eyes of my understanding were opened, and I saw as clear as the sun at noonday, with wonder and astonishment, the pathway of God and man, I formed the following couplet which expresses the revelation, as it was show me...."

"As man now is, God once was.
As God now is, man may be."

President Snow kept this thought with him all the days of his life.  We should all remember that we have the potential to become God's and strive to do so.

Leson Recap

By following patterns, step by step  we are assured of a specific outcome.  We can follow the pattern set by Mother Eve to fulfill our roles as a "mother of all living".
#1  Eve labored beside her companion  (Moses 5: 1)
#2  Eve bore the responsibility of motherhood  (Moses 5: 2)
#3  Eve worshipped the Lord in prayer (Moses 5: 4)
#4  Eve Heeded Divine Commandments of Obeidence and Sacrifice (Moses 5: 5)
#5  Eve taught the Gospel to her children (Moses 5: 12)

Eve's pattern is a pattern for all sisters in Relief Society and is confirmed in modern days by scriptures, teachings of living prophets and the organization of the Relief Society.  We also have the guide Daughters in My Kingdom the preface of which tells us that the "value of the book is in the purposes, principles and patterns (the Relief Society) teaches."

As daughters of our Heavenly Father and members of the Shelley 1st Ward we are all playing the same symphony--seeking exaltation in our Heavenly Father's kingdom.  Each of us, as an "instrument" of God has our own notes to play.  Together--A Symphony of Sisterhood--we can play beautiful music and fulfill our God-given role.

Weekday Meeting

Weekday meeting this month will be Thursday, March 28th at 6:30 p.m.  It will be the Birthday Celebration Dinner and a nursery will be provided.

Here is your very PURSE-onal invitation!  Come see what PURSE-onal effects Shelley 1st Ward Relief Society can have on your PURSE-onality!  Bring your PURSE--you'll be glad you did!

President's Message

A few weeks ago we held our visiting teaching interviews.  Thank you to all who took time to come.  We recognize that it takes effort to come and arrange your busy schedules.  We know that we missed some of you, and hopefully we have made contact with each of you.  There were a few things that we found out that I felt would be good to pass on.  We asked what were some of the blessings you felt from being a visiting teacher?  The most common answer was friendship and an opportunity to socially interact.  Pres. Hinckley said that one of the things that a new convert needs in this church is a friend.  I feel from all who we talked to that it doesn't matter how new to the church you are, there is a common need among all the sisters to have a friend.  Another blessing shared was the opportunity to share common testimony and grow spiritually.  In the Book of Mormon we are told that the preaching of the word has a more powerful effect upon the minds of the people than anything else.  So sharing testimony and the words of the prophets can strengthen each of us.  I testify that your calling to be a visiting teacher is of the utmost importance to our Heavenly Father.  He depends on each of us to serve the best we can.  I want to encourage you to have prayer with your partner before entering the home.  The spirit will be with you and you will know better how to serve your sisters.  I encourage you to go into your sisters home, and where possible leave a message, drawing on that power of the word to bless your sister, your partner, and yourself.

I asked some, "How does it make you feel if your visiting teacher doesn't make contact with you?"  The response was, "I feel that they don't really care about me."  Sisters, please make contact.  We have had a lot of sickness this last couple of months and I realize that because of that it makes it impossible to go into the home.  If no other option exists, please call, text, send a note, whatever way works best for you.  Don't let your sister think you don't care about her and let a month pass without contact.

There are a few changes that need to be made.  Some are moving, some are coming back, so change is necessary.  I hope  that as I do this you will know that it is with prayer and a great desire to have the best situation exist for you.

Please look for opportunities between now and our next interviews to strengthen your testimony of visiting teaching and increase your friendship with those you visit.

We love you sisters and appreciate all your efforts in visiting teaching.     Sister Strupp

Visiting Teaching

Our Prophet, President Thomas S. Monson, has encouraged us to "reach out to rescue those who need our help and lift them to the higher road and the better way...It is the Lord's work, and when we are on the Lord's errand,...we are entitled to the Lord's help."
