Lesson Recap

This week's lesson was Elder Oaks talk given in the April 2014 general conference entitled "The Keys of the Priesthood".  In his talk, Elder Oaks said,"The Lord has directed that only men will be ordained to offices in the priesthood. But, as various Church leaders have emphasized, men are not “the priesthood.” Men hold the priesthood, with a sacred duty to use it for the blessing of all of the children of God.
The greatest power God has given to His sons cannot be exercised without the companionship of one of His daughters, because only to His daughters has God given the power “to be a creator of bodies … so that God’s design and the Great Plan might meet fruition.”Those are the words of President J. Reuben Clark.
He continued: “This is the place of our wives and of our mothers in the Eternal Plan. They are not bearers of the Priesthood; they are not charged with carrying out the duties and functions of the Priesthood; nor are they laden with its responsibilities; they are builders and organizers under its power, and partakers of its blessings, possessing the complement of the Priesthood powers and possessing a function as divinely called, as eternally important in its place as the Priesthood itself.”
This is an excellent talk to study and ponder about the priesthood and how it blesses ALL of God's children.

October Presidency Message

My Dear Sisters in the Shelley First Ward,

When I was called to the position of Relief Society President I was filled with an overwhelming love for each of you.  I can’t wait to get to know each of you better.  I wish I could personally visit you each week or at least each month but that is impossible. There are 118 sisters currently in our ward. If I only spent 15 minutes with each of you each week that would be1,770 minutes or 29 ½ hours.  I wish I could do that but there just isn’t time for me to be able to.  That is where each of you comes in. Each of you promised when you were baptized to bear one another’s burdens, to comfort those that stand in need of comfort, and mourn with those that mourn. Most of you are visiting teachers. Your call as a visiting teacher is to be the Lord’s hands here in the Shelley First Ward. To minister, serve, care for, and watch over the sisters whom you have been assigned.

Part of ministering to your sisters is getting to know them, and being their friend. Sometimes we may ask why this sister she rubs me the wrong way. Sisters, I promise you that if you will go and do what the Lord has asked; you will have a love for this sister that fills your heart for we are each beautiful and unique daughters of our Heavenly Father. I know because this has happened to me. I have thought I can’t do this, but as I did my best the Lord filled in the gaps for me and I know he will do the same for you.

Every single one of us is facing challenges; there are no exemptions we all need to feel our Heavenly Father’s and our Savior’s love. As we minister to our sisters they will be able to know that they are important and loved by us and feel the love of our Heavenly Father and Savior.

I love each of you wonderful exceptional beautiful women. I can’t do all that my Savior and Heavenly Father have asked me to do without your help. Please minister to the sisters whom you have been called to serve at this time. Help them, serve them, smile at them, but most of all love them.

Sister Rayanne Cook

On November 1st we will be having visiting teaching interviews. We care calling it our Friendship Breakfast. We are asking each sister, even if she is not a visiting teacher, to come enjoy breakfast with us either before or after your appointment. We want to visit with you about your companion, the sisters you visit and the sisters who visit you.  We will also be discussing some changes that will be made in how we report our visiting teaching. Please watch for the signup sheets that will be coming around to sign up for appointments.

Lesson Summary

This week's lesson was #18 Living by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God.
President Joseph Fielding Smith said,"It is necessary for us to walk in the full light of the truth, not in part of the truth only. I haven’t the privilege of discarding some of the principles of the gospel and believing others, and then feel that I am entitled to the full blessings of salvation and exaltation in the kingdom of God. If we want exaltation, if we want the place which the Lord has prepared for those who are just and true, then we must be willing to walk in the full light of the gospel of Jesus Christ, and keep all the commandments."
"The Lord’s laws are eternal, and we have the fullness of his everlasting gospel and are obligated to believe all of his laws and truths and then to walk in conformity with them. There is nothing more important to any individual than keeping the Lord’s commandments. He expects us to cleave unto every true principle, to put first in our lives the things of his kingdom, to press forward with a steadfastness in Christ, and to serve him with all our might, mind, and strength."
As we keep the commandments, the Lord will comfort, bless, and strengthen us to be women worthy of exaltation.

Lesson Recap

This week's lesson was given by Sister Judi Hendrix. She taught us what a wonderful life we have and that no one can take our place.  We are all here with a purpose and we can strengthen each other and create a strong sisterhood by not judging each other or putting our own self down.  As we serve one another and encourage and care for each other, we can create a strong bond and realize our own individual importance in Heavenly Father's plan.
