It is a new year and this year well be studying the teachings of George Albert Smith in Relief Society. Sister Strupp gave a wonderful introduction to this great man that was full of humor and made you realize that Prophets are just people like us. Some of the highlights were:
David O. McKay said that President Smith lived as close as possible to being like Christ.
J. Rueban Clark said that President Smith's name should have been "Love".
He was a real stinker as a youngster and was the terror of the neighborhood and the ward. It was said that he was the worst boy the townsfolk knew.
He fell in love with his wife, Lucy, first at 10 years old when he dipped her braids in the inkwell and then later tied her to a tree with those same braids.
He was very musical and used to put on concerts in his backyard. People loved to come and see him perform.
When he passed away, his 7-year-old paper boy came to the house and said that he had lost his very best friend.
He lived to age 81 but had a lot of health problems along the way but was an inspiration to all who knew him.
It is going to be a really great year learning about George Albert Smith.
